Commented: Different APs?

They should be replaced with interactive sites that contain commentary professionally edited and targeted to the different category of reader: executive, system architect, software model developer, interface developer.
Pick a topic, start small, gauge results, iterate.

There is so much commonality among APs that hierarchical site design is a slick way to re-use content.

Answered: PMI semantic validation?

The NIST Step File Analyzer can validate most of the PMI semantic content. It is actively maintained and enhanced.

https://www.nist.gov/services-resources/software/step-file-analyzer-and-viewer

Commented: What is a Part 21?

The beauty of the approach is that parsers can more readily be created for data exchange because the record structure is independent of the content. All p21 files have the same format while the data content can differ wildly.

Answered: What is a Abstract Test Suite and Conformance Test?

No.

The abstract test suites are black box tests. They specify the detailed user scenario with the system to generate the STEP data.

The CAx-IF uses a template-based approach. It is a white-box approach.

They decide on the needed data population for a concept, develop a template for the data population, develop exchange scenarios based on the template, and work to ensure all members’ files adhere to the template.

Commented: STEP Viewer?

The report from the NIST tools is great. The Viewer is a very simple implementation. The view just views the geometry [highly tesselated after translation to a web format] with no interaction or exposure to the meta-data, product-structure or associated features.

Comment edited: What is an AIM?

Application Modules have two levels of schemas. The Application Requirements Model uses terms (entities) that are understood by the using community. The entities are mapped to the Integrated Resources, which results in the Module Interpreted Model.

Each Application Protocol has a corresponding Application Module. For example, AP 242 has a corresponding Part 442. This is a special Application Module with a schema that references or "Uses" the schemas defined in both Integrated Resources and in other Application Modules or Application Interpreted Constructs.

When the Part 442 ARM and MIM are created, they are called short form schemas because they make reference to external schemas, i.e., schemas defined in AMs, AICs, or IRs. When these short form schemas are processed by a SHTOLO tool, the tool produces a long form schema, i.e., multiple schemas are integrated into a single, long schema. These long form schemas are called the AIM and the MIM for the application protocol.
